army school

can anyone help me find a British Army school operating on HK Island 1901-1904?

It would probably have been known as the "Garrison School".

The earliest mention I found of Garrison School in the online newspapers is of a Prize Distribution 'In connection with the Garrison Schools' in 1909, see p.4 of The China Mail, 1909-10-01. But it doesn't give any information about the school's location.

We've also got https://gwulo.com/victoria-junior-school which was a Garrison School from just a couple of years after the period you're interested in. It has the comment that it was built in 1906:

1906 - Single storey 3 classroom + hall built after previous 'Murray Army School' was destroyed by typhoon.

So the previous 'Murray Army School' is probably what you're looking for. I haven't found its location, but from the name it was likely in or near to the Murray Barracks: https://gwulo.com/node/13910#17~22.27862~114.16070~Map_by_GovHK-Markers…

Thank you so much for that. That’s really interesting. I struggled for this family because they were only in Hong Kong for a very short time and it’s early 1901-1904
The family had a son who would have been four when they arrived. Amazingly I have a tape of him talking about his life recorded when he was an old man. He does say that he went to military school and that the discipline was strict, but that’s all.

I do have two possible addresses for them which I don’t have to hand - I will dig them out, if you don’t mind having a look.

I've been trying to find where they lived and for a school for the boy Joe.

Another child was born to the family in Hong Kong in 1901 which has helped me anchor them
I have the baptism record for St John’s Cathedral and an army birth certificate- each of which has a little info - I’ll dig out the addresses

Many thanks for your response
