"Eggesford" stood on RBL 98 which was put up for public auction on 8 August 1899 (1) and bought by Mr. Turner of Messrs. Palmer & Turner (2).

Construction of the building was underway when it was "much damaged" by the typhoon of 10 November 1900 (3). Despite that setback, construction seems to have been completed by early 1902 as Mr.A Turner of "Eggsford, Mount Gough" is listed in the 1902 Peak Directory.

The spelling "Eggsford" may have been a typo. Palmer & Turner named some of their properties after places in the UK. Eggesford is a village in Devon, England, so this house may have been named after the village.
