Thank you moddsey, place added. What about the building with the columns: Theatre Royal - City Hall?
Re: Columns
The grand columns were part of the HSBC. See here and https://archive.org/details/twentiethcentury00wriguoft/page/114/mode/2up?q=Bank

Is the building in the background the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China? We don't have any photos of it yet.
Re: Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China
I think that the photographer was looking to the east. The HSBC building only had round columns at Queen's Road, the building in the back has square ones. It is a separate building and likely not connected to the HSBC building, This can be seen more clearly here:
So it could be the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China.
Addendum: moddsey just uploaded a photo of the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China. The building there looks pretty much the same as on the photo above.
Main Photo: Building in the Background
The building in the background in the main photo is a separate building and is the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China. A view of the Chartered Bank and the HSBC (2nd Generation) looking west on Queen's Road Central at: https://archive.org/details/twentiethcentury00wriguoft/page/114/mode/2up
location confirmed
On the HSBC History website a similar photo is shown with a clear view of the HSBC headquarters and the Chartered Bank of India, Australia and China behind.
