Seated on the sedan chair is my great grandpa, who is very strangely outfitted in a set of costumes that I think are totally inappropriate for a typical Chinese funeral. Really in vogue considering the drabness of all those people around him. Most likely he follows the coffin vehicle for the procession? Unfortunately can't read the T-shaped road signage due right of the vehicle otherwise I could easily work out the exact whereabouts of the location.

I had tried playing with the levels on this photo to see if I could make the street sign clearer, but wasn't successful. We'll keep our fingers crossed that you are able to work out the street name.

Re: Off topic
Hi There,
Something interesting.
I spotted a man outside the barrier of the balcony at the corner of the street, holding onto the ledge, very close to the business sign of 天成行.

Temple St area
In the immediate neighborhood of 48-50 Temple St., the short block running E to W with 4 storefronts would have to be between Temple and Arthur. The street with the street sign containing 3 Chinese characters has to be Arthur St.
In this enhanced image of the street sign, the fuzzy Chinese characters look like XX砵. This would match with Portland St. if it was written from R to L. The side streets along Portland with a short block would be between Mongkok Road and Argyle St. If it was the Argyle/Portland junction, the orientation of the photo does not match. If it was the Mong Kok/Portland junction, the photo fits. This would be along the route from the residence to Kowloon Funeral Home.
Re: Temple St area, by tkjhoIn…
Buildings from left to right are:
number 7 Waterloo road;
number 9,11, 13 and 15 Waterloo Road ; and
and number 526-528 Nathan Road, which is also visible in this photo https://gwulo.com/media/17359
Kowloon Funeral Home at Tai Kok Tsui was opened in late 1950s, so the route theory should not be too substantial yet in 1946.
Portland Street sign
jackiet,
Good catch.
So the street sign actually indicates Portland St. and the procession was at the Portland/Waterloo intersection.
The block appeared to be only 4 storefronts long because the low building at the corner of Waterloo/Nathan was blocked from view by the crowd.
Could they be on their way to 摩禮信殯儀館 Morrison Funeral Parlor in Yaumatai?
The procession route could be either along the red arrows or the green arrows, then turned back south to the Morrison. The orientation of the rickshaw showed that they were heading west at that intersection.
Upon checking the other photos, the procession did pass along Nathan Rd., the green arrows route.
