Rate Book entries for Old Bailey Street 1893 4

This is a photo of an excerpt from the Rate Book records of the odd numbers of Old Bailey Street 1893-94 that I took when I was searching (in vain) for traces of a Chinese relative. Hong Kong historians will note the name of Sin Tak Fan aka Stephen Hall who owned no. 7 Old Bailey Street among his many properties. I also have a photo of the same street numbers for 1894-95 if anyone is interested. The names of some of the owners are different.

I have a number of Rate Book records for the streets where my family owned property, but they may not be of interest to anyone else.

Hi Jill,

You mention that you also have a photo of the later rate book page, 1894-1895 with different names. I'm also seeking family who lived there. My GF, Tobias Hunter and his brother George Hunter show their address 1 Old Bailey ( on other Jurors lists ) and just Old Bailey on this one in 1899. The address was listed at land records as being in the name Kot Choy from 1887 until 1913. I think this also the same address as 20 Hollywood Road, also listed as being in the name Kot Choy. If you or anyone has access to rate books for that lot, I'd appreciate being able to see them.

I'm afraid that the Rate Book record that I have for 1894-95 omits 1 Old Bailey Street. It begins at no. 3, as with the 1893-95 record. There is no Kot Choy or Tobias Hunter listed. Sorry about that. 1 Old Bailey Street must be on a different page by itself.

Hi Jill,

Thanks; I don't have #1 Old Bailey on mine either. I was hoping to see the Chinese names on the later page, as some of my family had Chinese aliases. That block IL 116 should have had several addresses on Old Bailey, maybe even as high as 11. My family was in Section G so there were probably several other addresses within IL 116. It's possible my family had moved to Shelley Street by then.
