Joe Yamakawa and later his wife held the licence for the Yamakawa Hotel. The Hotel was also known and advertised as the "Nagasaki Joe Hotel".
a) In 1918, Joe Yamakawa applied for a Restaurant Adjunct License for the premises at 47 Praya East. The name of the establishment is not mentioned. See: https://sunzi.lib.hku.hk/hkgro/view/G1918/58978.pdf
b) In 1921, the premises was known as the "Yamakawa Hotel".
c) In 1930, the address of the Yamakawa Hotel at the same location was changed to 70 Johnston Road after the completion of the Praya East Reclamation.
d) In 1933, the Yamakawa Hotel was relocated to the ground floors at 62-63 Gloucester Road. See: https://sunzi.lib.hku.hk/hkgro/view/G1933/203935.pdf. In 1936, it became officially known as the "Nagasaki Joe Hotel".
