Broadwood Road came into being in 1915. It was a development of colonial-style houses, either bungalows or two-storey villas, on a ridge overlooking the Happy Valley Racecourse.
Number 16 was a bungalow. The bungalows typically had four rooms with kitchen, two bathrooms and servants' quarters at the rear.

1933-41 William Henry Whiteley at 16 Broadwood Road
The 1935-41 Jurors List shows William Henry Whiteley as a Director or Manager at Der A. Wing Co. Ltd residing at 16 Broadwood Road.
In a court case involving Whiteley and his landlord, Aaron Sassoon Gubbay, it was revealed that Whiteley had signed a lease for 16 Broadwood Road in September 1933. See Hong Kong Daily Press on 4 May 1939 at: https://archive.org/details/NPDP19390504/page/n5/mode/2up?q=whiteley
Whiteley does not appear in the 1933 and 1934 Jurors List.
Gubbay's claim v. Whiteley
Thank you for finding this, moddsey. If I've understood correctly, Gubbay's claim versus Whiteley was "non-suited." How complicated nevertheless. I assume that Whiteley was able to stay in no. 16.
Re: Whiteley's Court Case
Yes, Gubbay's claim against Whiteley was dismissed with costs going to Whiteley. From the Jurors List, it appears Whiteley maintained his residence at 16 Broadwood Road up to and including 1941.
