This shows what I believe is the final incarnation of the Tai Pak, with both upper and lower floors completely enclosed. I'm not sure when the full enclosure happened but it was sometime between the mid-70s and early 80s. So this image is late 70s/early 80s at the earliest.
I lived in HK from 1972 until 1990 and have never ever heard of Tai Pak Floating Restaurant. Did it change its name to Jumbo without me looking? Were there more than 1 floating restaurant?
Hi Mowzer72 - during your time in Hong Kong there were at least 3 restaurants in Aberdeen Harbour including the Tai Pak, Sea Palace and then later (1976), the Jumbo. They were all separate structures to begin with but were later joined together as one in the "Jumbo Kingdom" which had the Jumbo as the centrepeiece and the other two restaurants hitched to either side. Isn't this the Jumbo Floating Restaurant?
