After his return on the Gripsholm in December 1943, George E Costello submitted a report on the organization of "Camp Stanley" and its camp life in general to the Department of External Affairs in Ottawa, Canada.

The report appeared in The Shanghai Evening Post and Mercury newspaper on 5 May 1944 and in the June 1944 Canadian Prisoners of War Relatives Association News Sheet. Assigned to Hong Kong in 1926, George E Costello returned to Hong Kong in 1949 to his former post of general agent of Canadian Pacific Steamships.
