Does anyone know a date for this visit? I went on board with my son on a US Navy sponsored public tour from Fenwick Pier.
The images I took with my son in them look as though he was about 10 years old at the time.
This would have been the ship’s last visit to Hong Kong before being taken out of service.
I seem to have noted dates when my photos were taken as August 1986 (probably too early based on the images of my son) or November 1989.
Google searches bring up images of a 1953 (Korean War) visit to Hong Kong, but seemingly nothing later.

It would appear to be 31st…
It would appear to be 31st October to 6th November 1989 as part of the ANNUALEX 89 naval exercise.
CVW-11 made its final cruise aboard ENTERPRISE from September 1989 to March 1990. Highlights of the world cruise included exercises PACEX, ANNUALEX 89 and VALIANT BLITZ 90, comprised of the largest assemblage of U.S. naval air and sea power since World War II. Coordinated operations involved a three-carrier battle group comprised of ENTERPRISE, USS CARL VINSON (CVN 70), and USS CONSTELLATION (CV 64). Two battle forces, including the carriers ENTERPRISE and CARL VINSON, and the battleships USS NEW JERSEY (BB 62) and USS MISSOURI (BB 63), operated in conjunction with the Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, Republic of Korea Navy and Air Force, U.S. Air Force and U.S. Marine Corps to provide highly successful joint training.
See 1989 Command History of the USS Enterprise - esp pages 8 (where it mentioned USS New Jersey was in Japan on 14th October 1989) to pages 9 (which mentioned dropping anchor in HK 31st October and leaving HK 6th November)
Your November 1989 date is right. Probably Saturday 4th or Sunday 5th November if you took your son with you unless playing hooky from school.
Thank you very much for…
Thank you very much for finding the date.
Like many no doubt, the good intentions of marking dates and locations on slides and prints shortly after they were taken, tended to get put off by “family life.” Less of an issue today when using digital cameras within-built data capture and GPS.
