Tai Pak, Castle Peak, 1972

This is just about the last of the photos I have from HK. This was a stop on a NT tour I went on. There was a small souvenir stand nearby, and I bought an english-language copy of Mao's little red book there. Do I misunderstand, or was there also a "Tai Pak" in Aberdeen harbor also?

Doug - great photos.

Yes, there was and still is a Tai Pak in Aberdeen Harbour, now incorporated into the Jumbo Kingdom.

Cheers, Phil

Edit: for clarity, this structure in Castle Peak Bay was the original restaurant from Aberdeen, but was moved to Castle Peak sometime between 1960 and 1962  (this is the narrowest time frame I have been able to determine as of yet).

"A new marine restaurant "Tai Pak Fong" commenced business at Aberdeen Harbour as a replacement for the old one of the same name which was transferred to Castle Peak Bay where it is now operating under the name of "Tai Pak". Another similar restaurant the "Sea Palace Annex" was sold to owners in Macau and towed there in January 1962."

Likely 1961. Source: Marine Department Annual Report 1961/62. See here

thanks Moddsey.

Yes, the Sea Palace was towed to Macau and became the first version of the floating Macau Casino Palace in the inner harbour.

This looks to me like the same one that was moved to Castle Peak. Unless this version only existed between 1961 and 1962 before being replaced by the more familiar triple-roofed version. I think the "fong" might be a red-herring here.
