Going through some of my father’s photos, I came across this which has raised my curiosity and I’m trying to find out who the people were alongside my dad.
My dad (Bill Bennett) was an engineer with Jardines from 1948 till 1969/70 rising through the Jardine hierarchy to be their Chief Superintendent Engineer in the 1960s. In the photo he is in the back row, third from our right. I’m guessing the photo was taken in the late 50s / early 60s and I was wondering if anyone could shed light on the other people pictured. Bob Tatz, a fellow Jardine’s engineer who worked with my dad thought, maybe the person to my dad’s right may have been John Green but other than that I’m afraid that I’m clueless other than assuming they are from Jardines. Any ideas?
Many thanks!
Robert Bennett

50s/60s Jardines People
The man sitting second from the right is Doug Hunt. He was a former member of BAAG and a member of the HK Volunteers.
1950 / 60's Jardine People
Hi Robert,
when you refer to Jardine are you referencing Jardine Engineering Corporation Ltd (JEC). JEC was formed in Hong Kong from the old Jardine Engineering Department located in Shanghai with the aim of servicing the Jardine Matheson Groups various operations at that time. JEC was established in 1923 and headquartered in Shanghai with branches in Wuhan and Hong Kong, by 1950 Hong Kong became the new headquarters for JEC.
As for the names of other staff in the photograph let me reach out to a Director friend of mine at JEC and see what they can find.
