born Walter George ROBINSON in 1860. He became a merchant in the late 19th century, dealing with musical instruments, plying his wares from China (HK and Shanghai) to the US and England. He had married Alvilda Olivia OLSEN sometime before 1912. He later became General Manager circa 1905, perhaps owner, of the Robinson Piano Company, Ltd. In 1912 he purchased a large number of lots on Savary Island, British Columbia, as part of an investment. This island with the warmest waters on the Pacific NW coast, was marketed as "the Catalina of the North". However, the endeavour, in consort with the Savary Island Park Association, became a fiasco, and he lost money and interest in the endeavour, eventually leaving the bulk of the lots with his wife Alvilda and nephew John Henry Pearson (manger of The Robinson Piano Company) after his death in 1936, in Bournemouth, England. After his wife's death, some of the lots remained with her neices ( Hannah Detweiler and Jenny Parker, nee Olsen). By request, and as noted in his will, no monument nor obituary was signify or edify his existence.

I'll be interested to see what you find out, as the Robinson Piano Co appears regularly when we're typing up the Jurors lists. Is he one of your ancestors?
The earliest mention of the company in the Jurors Lists we've typed up is the 1899 list: http://gwulo.com/node/6958
Here is a list of resources, in case there are any you haven't tried yet: http://gwulo.com/node/9374

Hello David,
Thank you for your kind and timely reply to my posting. Walter George (Vaughan-) Robinson is an ancestor of mine. I know that he was the General manager of the Robinson Piano Company in the early 1900s, but do not yet know what the familial connexion to the firm. His 1935 will lists substantial shares in the company and bequests to his nephew and fellow Robinson Piano Co. employee John Henry PEARSON. Elusive and mysterious, he travelled across the globe many times between 1890-1935, usually on business. He did have dealings with the company in HK, Shanghai and Yokohama(?). His widow Alvilda Olivia (nee OLSEN) Vaughan-Robinson dies in 1946 in Monaco leaving substantial assets. Thank you for your suggestions. Will post anything new.
regards. Ron, from the left coast of Canada
