My mother used to ride at a place called the Cottage Club (NB not the Fanling Country Club): I think the CC was more modest and informal. She is named in an article in the China Mail of December 27th 1940 as having narrowly lost the Christmas Paperchase having been "bumped off the course in the last 50 yards"!
Can anyone tell me where in the New Territories this was?

Somewhere in Fanling?
The Cottage Club is regularly mentioned in the newspapers from 1938-1941: view on MMIS
When a location is mentioned, it is "Cottage Club, Fanling". There are also several references to events held at the "clubhouse".
Page 9 of The China Mail, 1940-11-15 has several photos of the club's members, but none showing the location of its clubhouse.
Dill's Corner?
On one of the 1945 maps there is a "Country Club" marked at Dill's Corner. Would this be the Fanling Country Club mentioned above or could it be the Cottage Club. I note that one of their 1940 papers chases started from Dill's Corner.

Indeed, including my mother walking with two sticks. No riding that day.
