Francis and Vera were married in October, 1941 at St. Margaret's Church, Hong Kong. His best man was his older brother Edgar, and his brother Arthur's daughter Mary was the flower girl. Vera's best man was Al Alvares, and her sister Ina was her bridesmaid. Tragically, the marriage was short-lived as Francis was killed defending Hong Kong as a volunteer on December 18, 1941. Francis was the sixth son of Amaro John and Maria Rita Reed. He was 28 when he died.
Edgar, 36, and Arthur, 33, lost their lives fighting together on December 19, the day after Francis was killed. Their brother Stephen, 32, was wounded that same day and died the following month at the military hospital.
I inadvertently posted the above wedding photo with an incomplete title: Francis Vera Oct. 1941. Is it possible to change that title to reflect the full name: Francis and Vera (de Carvalho) Reed Wedding Oct. 1941? Thank you!
