The name George Green is mentioned on Carl Smith Cards
4 January 1864 George Green recently fitted up "Argus" in Peel Street formerly known as "Circle Universal" as first class hotel
21 April 1867 Alice Georgina Victoria Green baptised at St Johns born 31 March 1867 daughter of George Green and Sarah Ann Green 73rd Regt schoolmaster
Not sure if the following refers to the same George Green
29 August 1906 Application to move from 21 Pottinger Street under the sign Criterion to 98-100 Queens Road Central was opposed by merchants in the neighborhood. Pottinger Street at one time had been a respectable street.
4 November 1914 Publican's Licence to George Green Criterion Hotel
I think the first two mentions are for a different man. I found another mention of this page's George Green on p.181 of Arnholds-China Trader, where Michael Green describes his family's roots in Hong Kong:
For both our company and for our family, Hong Kong has been home since the late 1800s. My grandparents [George & Kitty Green] arrived as refugees from Romania, speaking little English and no Chinese, and bought a small hotel on the waterfront. It catered mostly to merchant seamen, and most of the profits came from the bar downstairs - where I was told my grandfather was his own best customer!
