For your dad's stint in HK under the 7th Queen's Own Hussars the time period of interest would be from 8th September 1954 till the end of June 1957.
An advance party came to HK three weeks prior to a contingent arriving on the 8th September 1954 on the troopship 'Cheshire' and then the remaining regiment came on the troopship 'Dunera' the next day on the 9th September 1954 before being billetted immediately to the New Territories.
As you already know, your father returned to the UK 3 years later with the 7th Queen's Own Hussars on the troopship Nevasa from Hong Kong, via the Cape and arriving in Southampton on 30th July 1957. I guess the tensions arising from the Suez Crisis in October 1956 made it imperative that troopships still avoided the usual route via the Suez Canal.
