Royal Ulster Rifles [1881-1968]

This infantry unit was formed in 1881. It continued in British Army service until 1968, when it became part of The Royal Irish Rangers. (Source: National Army Museum)

Their 1st Battalion were in Hong Kong from 1935 to 1937, and again from 1951 to 1953.

Ulster Rifles Given Hearty Send-Off

To the accompaniment of rousing cheers from hundreds of spectators, and martial music from the Band of Middlesex Regiment, and the Pipes and Drums from the Seaforth Highlanders and the Kumaon Rifles, details of the 1st Battalion, the Royal Ulster Rifles en route for India and details from other Units en route for England after service in Hong Kong, Shanghai and Tientsin, were given a hearty send-off yesterday when H.M. Troopship Dilwara sailed for India and England via Singapore.

1951 - 1953

In late 1951 the Royal Ulster Rifles arrived in Hong Kong from Korea, where they had fought in the Korean War.
