Knauff was the Director of the Orient Tobacco Manufactory, for which my grandfather (Edgar de Chaffoy) worked. My grandparents had only left Germany for Hong Kong in November, so this was their first Christmas Day in Hong Kong. Shek Lei Pui Reservoir (nr Kowloon Reservoir) in the background: construction completed in 1925. Lion Rock in the further background. As they lived above the factory in Mong Kok/Yaumatei at the time, this would have been an easy area to get to.

Kowloon Reservoir
This should be Kowloon reservoir looking towards Lion Rock in the background.
Shek Lei Pui Reservoir
Correction, this is Shek Lei Pui reservoir (slightly higher and further west of Kowloon reservoir) . The granite structure in the background still occupies the south easterly dam wall.

Reservoir
Thankyou philk, that's brilliant. I have amended the entry.
