The road separation is interesting. First impressions, it is not Hong Kong given the number of tricycles and two-storey buildings that can be seen. Appears to be taken in the Inner Harbour area of Macau as viewed here The tall building on the left is distinctive.

Greetings.  A tiny bit of memory tells me that the building on the left is the Canton/Guangzhou's train station (original HK-Canton route) built shortly before this photo was taken.  All other photos in Brian's gallery are scenes from Hong Kong so he either got this photo from someone, or during his trip there.

If my guess is right, in the early 1950s I exited the building (gate to the left but out of picture) and much of the floor area was still not occupied.  Grandma and I travelled on a tricycle like the one shown here and with a retractable canopy  to our home.  As for these shop front arches, my memory is sitting on the fence but leaning towards the station.  Regards,  Peter

This is Macau. You can see the art deco Grande Hotel in the distance.

Same view today via Streetview: https://earth.app.goo.gl/8sGtsV

The road is Rua do Dr. Lourenço Pereira Marques, and the building on the near left is still there (as is the old hotel), although I have no idea what it was (fish market?)

Thank you, everyone for your interesting comments and conclusion. I too wondered about the trishaws, as I don’t recall ever seeing them in Hong Kong - but they were of course very common in Macau. Having typed that, I have a memory of  seeing a sedan chair in use up on the Peak in Hong Kong in 1957 - but I never took a photograph of it so perhaps that might be a false memory! I visited Macau in 1958, but cannot remember whether I included  my colour photographs in my 1957/8 gallery. If not, do you want them uploading David? There are about 10. Best wishes Andrew
