I have a faint impression that in the late 1960s, there was a wet market covered the canel from Hennessy Road southward up to around Russel Street. That would be somewhere about the location of the foot bridge of the photo above, maybe a little further. All gone when the flyovers were built in preparation of the Cross Harbour Tunnel.
Concerning the flyover, there used to be an up\down ramp on east bound Lockhart Road and Canel Road. That was removed when the Government extended the Canel road flyover towards the Aberdeen Tunnel in the 1980s.
