Notes from Nona:

We always had tea or coffee after the piano concerts -- this photo shows the Gabriel family (daughters Laura and Barbara were pupils) and the two ladies on the left hand side were Nina Smirnoff (sitting in the middle) and Ida Close (her husband Samuel Gerzo, HKVDC, died during the Japanese invasion on Christmas Day 1941 and after the war she remarried Joe Close, an English army officer).  My grandmother is at the head of the table with another Russian lady but whose name I don't remember :(

Yes that’s my sister Laura Gabriel Jagodnik currently living in San Diego CA

Barb Gabriel Mackenzie currently resides in Bali Indonesia with family (Son Jake grandkids Flynn Hanalei & Ziggy- daughter Tiff in Sydney grandsons Sam & Sacha)

Mums dad,  Moishe Goldman passed away in HK aged 89 - (Mum and Dad Reva and Eric passed away 2005/2013 respect)

Wonderful to see that photo and yes remember it well from all the Piano Recitals.

After a 3 year absence will be returning to HK in Nov 2022. Am excited to be going back. Would be great to catch up with anybody interested.
thanks 🙏

Barb

Hi Nona

What a lovely photo! Yes Laura  (now Jagodnik) was at the head of the table with with my grandfather Harry Eric Gabriel on her left and my grandmother Reva Gabriel on her right, and my mother Barbara (now Mackenzie) next to Reva. I think my great grandfather Moishe was sitting next to my mum but will check

Hi Barb

So glad to hear from you as you left FB so suddenly that I was worried you weren't well or something!

Hope you enjoy your trip to HK next month. Last time I was in HK was Dec 1980 and I spent 2 weeks with the Caters. It was already getting busy and things were starting to change so I thought I would just remember the old days there and not go back to see how it's changed :)

Love

Nona
