Matshed theatre on car park

The very slow film speed (ASA25) available for slides in 1958 did not make indoor photography easy!  The temporary theatre was erected at the far end of the car park.  A similar photograph is in my 1987 folder and below is one that I took in 2005.

I just want to say thanks to Andrew Suddaby for uploading these photos of a bygone age in HK.

These photos are extraordinary in that they bring back so much memory.  HK images that would have disappeared forever had they not been captured by your camera.  Some of these scenes had been completely forgotten by me until I saw them here.  Tremendous work.  Many many thanks again for sharing them.

Best regards

Ex HK'er .

Thank you for your very positive comments. Most of my original slides from 1958, 1981 and 1987 are now in the safe keeping of a friend in Hong Kong - where I have long felt they should ulimately be.  However, I also thought that if they can give some pleasure to a wider audience it would be a good thing to share them along with such memories and comments that I recall from those times.  David's site provides a great forum for our memories of a place that has changed almost out of all recognition.  He is the one who deserves so many thanks!  I guess that I am well on with my1987 photographs but it's a slow process. I have also put together, for my own interest, a 'then and now' slide show linking some of those old images with photographs taken during several short holidays between 2000 and 2007.  When I have finished the current sequence, I'm hoping to have a go at sorting that out for David - but the slide show might not transfer to his site as easily as the still photographs are doing. We'll have to wait and see what he and I can come up with.

Best wishes

Andrew
