Hi Andrew, your 1958 photo of Shek O shows a path leading to the west end of the beach. http://gwulo.com/atom/22123. In this photo, it appears there is the same path in the background. And that big rock next to the family, I seem to recall I walked by it on the way to the beach in 1956. Regards, Peter
In 2005, as part of my 'historical research' I filmed both the Big Wave Bay and the Shek O beaches on my camcorder. I have just taken photos off my DVD player screen and the image on Jill's old photo exactly matches mine of Big Wave Bay - even down to the distant headland visible between the rocks. If I knew how to insert it or attach it here I would!. One problem that I have noticed over the years is that Big Wave Bay is sometimes mis-named as Shek O on old photographs. I don't know why but maybe people visited both on the same day (I have always done so on my visits between 2001 and 2007) and they just put Shek O on all the photographs. Anyway it is Big Wave Bay! Best wishes, Andrew

I think that this is the Southern end of Big Wave Bay, where there is a large rock - now with a lifeguard station on it. Andrew

Thanks Andrew. I'll have a look to see if there are other beach photos with the same rocks. All other opinions very welcome!

Shek O Beach
Hi Andrew, thanks for straightening out my memories. That clear-white spot behind the father is too wide to be a walk path. Regards, Peter
