He was son of Samuel (born 11 Dec 1898) and Wilmot Jane Kemp (born 15 June 1906). He was interned aged 5 and they were billeted in Block 2 Room 15. Samuel's occupation is described as Tide Surveyor Chinese Maritime Customs.
Thank you for the information about my family. My parents were Samuel and Wilmot Kemp and my brother was Roger. I was born in Hong Kong in 1947. The family returned to Cornwall in 1949. Dad at that time was Chief Surveyor. I do have a manuscript that Roger wrote about his time in internment. I guess that he had hoped that it would be published. That is probably my window into their life at that time.
Hi Sheila: The manuscript must be very interesting .........the memories of a childhood in an internment camp. A bit like the film and book "Empire of the Sun". I believe they returned to UK in 1945 on the Empress of Asia.

Roger's manuscript
Dear Sheila,
We have a small collection of diaries and memoirs, please see: http://gwulo.com/list-of-diaries
If any of Roger's manuscript could be made public here on Gwulo, it will be a very welcome addition.
Regards, David
