We're serialising several diaries written in Stanley Camp. They're a good read for anyone interested in Hong Kong's history, but I also hope they'll be valuable for the families of the people who were interned there, and help them to understand some of their parents' and grandparents' behaviour.
Here are the diary entries we have for 7th September, 1944, where you get several mentions:

My 70th Birthday today.
Today is my birthday which brings many memories and thoughts tumbling into my head.
I have had a wonderful life following my unusual start in Stanley Internment camp this day 70 years ago.
With an amazing husband and four wonderful children, I have been very lucky.
I also have four lovely grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Veronica Ann Jordan (nee Reddish)
Happy Birthday Veronica!
Many happy returns of the day.
Thank you so much.
Thank you so much.

Dear Veronica,
Thank you very much for writing to us. We've read a little about you before from the BBC website:

Now it's good to hear that after the troubles of your childhood, life has turned out well.
I wonder if you've read any of Rae Shaw's (nee Jones) story? It has some parallels with yours:
