Uttam's Emporium on the right was at 1, Mody Road (address found on web, and just visible on the sign in this photo). So the photographer is standing on the south side of Mody Road, looking north up Bristol Avenue.
The skinny building at the far end of the road, Friends House, is still here today:

I think this is Bristol Avenue looking ahead towards Mody Road. The Honolulu Bar signboard can be seen.
