My family and I(Father, Mother, etc)lived on Stonecutters Island from 1952-1966. The round structure in the foreground is a open round concrete water tank to catch the rain, not a disued gun emplacement. The water was used for residents washing, bathing, toilet use, drinking(after it was boiled). It was located behind our house up on a hill. We lived in the police officers quarters. My father was Inspector Henry Dempster(RNDYP & ADP), the last european police officer to serve on Stonecutters island.
Hi Gordon, Thanks for clearing up that mystery. There are several more photos of the island in the pipeline. I hope you'll be able to tell us more about what we're looking at in each of them.
I believe RNDYP stands for Royal Naval Dockyard Police? I don't know 'ADP' though.
I have been research my husbands family history and your father Henry Dempster. Henry father was also Henry as was his father who married Agnes Mary Patton in Newtownards.
We live in Australia.
If you are interested in your family history please email.
