Amazing to see such an old picture in great detail, it must be a first class camera
The steam hammer with steam hose attached can clearly be seen, along with a vertical boiler that apparently supplied steam to two piling rigs (one at the back).
Individual rivets on the steam boiler and the access panel can be identified
Well spotted, I hadn't noticed the second rig in the background. Looking again more carefully I can also see the cupolas of the New Oriental Building in the background, just to the left of the piling rig.
And you're right about the image quality. I estimate the scanned image is around 50 mega-pixels in size, so those big old cameras could certainly hold their own against modern digital cameras.
