There has been discussion on kite flying near Kai Tak. This newsprint describes the hazards. I hope the kite flyer did not have the twine wrapped around his hands at the time of impact! IDJ

Re: Kite Flying
Not many people are aware but kite-flying is not permitted within 5 km of Hong Kong International Airport, Shek Kong Aerodrome and Shun Tak Heliport. The hazards to aircraft are all too obvious.
In the Kai Tak days kite flying was a common sight above the tenements in Kowloon City.
Re: Kite Flying
Hi there,
Hmm.. would owloon City still be in the no-kite zone as of today? I know the Aviation Club still flys choppers in and out of their club house there. I chopper was landing when I walked by some three weeks ago.
Best Regards,
T
