Star Ferry - Kowloon side

The Kowloon Star Ferry Wharf in the 1900s as I understand lay to the north of the current one near to the main entrance of the Kowloon Wharf and Godown Co. Ltd.

If it's on gwulo.com, we can use the little camera icon in the edit window to embed it:

Two benefits:

• This way the reader can click the photo to see the original, and find out any more information that is there (date taken, places shown, comments, etc)
• It also means when the directory naming changes next (it's happened twice so far), the link to the picture will still work - the link directly to the jpg file will break.

If it's on Flickr, use their "grab the HTML" option, and paste that in:

Again, that lets the viewer click through to Flickr to find out more about the original, and protects you from Flickr changing their directory names.

Or you could just link to it if it has already been set up as an image (external) on this site.

This approach should only take a few seconds more than pasting in a direct link to the jpg file. If the way I suggested seems too difficult / time-consuming, please let me know where the hold-up is and I'll see if there are any tips I can give to make it easier.

After the typhoon of 1906 had destoyed the pier, the Star Ferry Pier was entirely reconstructed on a new plan the following year which allowed the ferries to go alongside and berth parallel to the quay wall instead of right angles to it.

I reckon this postcard photo shows the 1907 pier from landside.

In 1914, a large new wharf for the Star Ferry launches was completed. The wharf was divided into two sections (Kowloon Permanent Piers No. 32 and 33), one for the ordinary ferry service and the other for the railway service.

1916 piers from landside. The KCR colonnade was extended to the Kowloon Star Ferry Pier in 1916.
