Only Joyce and Eric are now alive living in Sydney and Oregon respectively.

The Guests and Randalls have always been strong family friends. I used to swim with Eric daily at the Victoria Recreation Club and we entered the cross harbour race more than once. I am still in touch with families of Joyce and Eric.

Could I ask Gordon Randall or Tonille Smith if the address was No. 4 Embankment Road?

The Hutchinson family moved in with Mrs Guest at some point during the war, and I have just found a letter addressed to my mother with the address No. 4 Embankment Road, dated 7 March 1946.

Many thanks

Barbara Merchant

Yes Barbara.

The address was 4 Embankment Rd. There is a school there now.

Regards

Carolyn (Tonille's Mum and Joyce's daughter)

Thank you Carolyn, and apologies for taking a year to respond!

Yes, St Rose of Lima's School was built at 4 Embankment Rd in 1948, and the junior school is still there.

I'd be very interested to know how/why my mother's family, the Hutchinsons, either moved in with your HK family, or possibly took over their flat. Clearly they were close friends, as my grandfather's war diary mentions your family numerous times, such as here.

Do you know much about how they spent their war years in HK?

Many thanks

Barbara
