In latest raid on Tokyo propaganda leaflets dropped. Japs comment about it seems to indicate that their powers that be are very concerned & do their best to explain them away.

Russia will not re-new Russo-Japanese Non Aggression Pact. Awa Maru reported missing. Vienna captured by Russians. British 50 kms from Bremen (which direction). Allied & Russian troops expect to meet in 1 weeks time (report of 5th inst.)

Getting warmer.

We had seconds in vegetable balls. Eyes not so bad.

Cigarettes came in today. ((We 4 Redwoods were non-smokers, but aways 'bought' our allotment and sold them at profit to smokers who were always happy to have them - so we covered what we had paid for them and had spare money for canteen purchases))


The big news is the continuous bombing of Hong Kong for four days. When they commenced doing their stuff on the 2nd Easter Monday, then on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. The big B24's made a grand sight to the number of about 50 per day and Boy Oh Boy did they drop some big stuff on Hong Kong, they plastered the place all right. Ships were struck, Jap planes brought down and terrific havoc in Hong Kong, places like K dock, K teck, Lowu, Feryy Wharf, railway station, Causeway Bay, French Hospital and so on.

Spent evening with Peggy, and Dorothy Wilson outside American Block.


Bowen Road Hospital was moved to a separate area of Shamshuipo Camp about a month ago. Today it's transferred to the former Central British School in Kowloon. This is a good location for a hospital, and it continues here for the rest of the war.

Raid in night - noisy, ended about 2am.  Another raid started about 11 am and went on till 1.30pm when I went to hospital (to work).  Then to Annie's party in Grants' room. Quite a big air raid between 1pm and 3 pm.

Worked in afternoon.  Visited Mrs Grant, de Broekherts, and Burgess.

Rumour says Roosevelt died.

A/r alarm 11.15am – 1.30pm. Some planes but no excitement.  Taiwan bombed by British Task Force  (“Illustrious” & Co) Sabang bombarded by British Fleet (“Q.E.” & Co.)


Raid on.

Water in hydrant in am but not in taps yet.  

Joint Communion Day.  Went to see Mrs Taylor, then heard plans so left. 

Rumours: the new Jap premier has committed hari kari ((harakiri, ie ritual suicide)) and that Japan has sued for peace: we offered 7 points, 3 of which they have accepted, 4 being considered.

Roosevelt died on 12th April.

'Church Congress' in afternoon.  I read report on Girls' Clubs.  Many other papers read – there wasn't time to read them all out.
