Francis Oswald REED [1913-1941]

Francis Oswald was the sixth son of Amaro John and Maria Rita Reed, born in 1913.  He was an investment accountant at Hong Kong Land.  Francis married Vera de Carvalho In October, 1941 at St. Margaret's Church.  His eldest brother Edgar was his best man and his other brother Arthur's daughter Mary was the flower girl.  The bride's best man was architect Al Alvares and her sister Ina de Carvalho was her bridesmaid. Tragically, Francis lost his life defending Hong Kong on 

Arthur Augustus REED [1908-1941]

Arthur Augustus was the fourth son of Amaro John and Maria Rita Reed.  He attended Hong Kong University where he studied Engineering. He was in his last year when Ricci Hall opened, and he stayed till his graduation.  Arthur was Secretary of the Ricci Hall Students' Association and an active footballer. He joined China Light & Power Company after graduating as an engineer, and was an energetic worker in the St. Vincent de Paul Society.  Arthur married Marie Diniz on May 17, 1938 at Church of Christ the King in Shanghai, where Marie was from.

Robert Cyril REED [1903-1969]

The above details on the birth and death dates of Robert Cyril Reed, uncle of Angela Niles, were supplied by eurasion_david, who kindly copied his obituary from the SCMP:

"EX-TEACHER DIES

Mr. Robert Cyril Reed, a long-time resident, died on Saturday. He was 66.

Mr Reed was a teacher at the Moral Training School in Kowloon Tong.

He was a keen follower of hockey, cricket and lawn bowls.

Lawrence Hugh MCCABE [1916-1941]

Lawrence Hugh McCabe was born on 14th July 1916 in Finchley, Middlesex, the son of Edward John, a master tailer, and Hilda Nixon McCabe. He was educated at Pennell House in Eastbourne College in 1930. 

 

Joaquim GUTERRES (aka Jock) [????-1942]

My grandfather, Lieutenant Joaquim Guterres died at Sham Shui Po prisoner of war camp in 1942. 

Fought  at Mt Davis with company No 5.  I also am aware that his name is on a plaque outside of  Club de Recreio.
