Everything tagged: Lowe Bingham & Matthews

Arthur Rylands Lowe became Hong Kong's first full-time professional accountant in June 1902. He also set up an office in Shanghai in 1906 with J.E. Bingham as partner. When F.N. Matthews joined the partnership, the firm became known as Lowe, Bingham & Matthews "LBM" for short. It was the antecedent of PriceWaterhouseCoopers. Lowe was a stalwart of the British community in Hong Kong, an unofficial member of LEGCO,  secretary of the Hong Kong General Chamber of Commerce, Chairman of the Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club and President of the Lawn Bowls Association of Hong Kong.

Dorothy Walch, remembered by my Warren cousins by her maiden name, Dorothy Dransfield, appears with them in several of our family photographs from the late 1920s and early 1930s in Hong Kong before her marriage to Eric Walch of Lowe, Bingham & Matthews.   Unfortunately the two families lost touch with each other. If any descendants of the Walches come across this post, I should like to get in touch with them. It would be interesting to know if they have any similar photos or memories of my family.

ER Walch was an accountant with Lowe, Bingham & Matthews from about 1936-1941. Address in Jurors List for 1936 was The Peak Hotel. His 1937-1940 address is given as 20 Broadwood Road, usually known as The Towers. He is given as an auditor in Hong Kong in the 1941 Government Gazette. He married Dorothy Olivia Dransfield, daughter of Albert and Laura Dransfield on 20th April 1939 at the Union Church. There is a press photo that I can't find. Walch was probably a friend of Leslie Warren who also gives his address as 20 Broadwood Road in the Jurors List of 1940.
