Mary Gonzaga RIZZARDI (aka Sister Mary Gonzaga) [1902-1978]

Born Ebe Anita Rizzardi. She later changed her name to Sister Mary Gonzaga Rizzardi (as noted on the Gripsholm passenger manifest). Sister Mary Gonzaga served the Maryknoll Sisters and was assigned to South China in 1930.

After serving in various mission stations, Sister Mary Gonzaga was in Hong Kong during the Japanese invasion. She had been residing at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong. On 8 February 1942, eighteen Sisters of the school including Sister Mary Gonzaga were interned at Stanley Camp.

Enea TAPELLA (aka 達碑立神父) [1929-1977]

I am currently working on a research project about an Italian Catholic priest, Father Enea Tapella (達碑立神父) from the (Pontifical Institute for Foreign Missions, PIME), who spent his good years in Hong Kong between 1957 and 1977, and was renowned with his unselfish contribution to mentally handicapped children in Hong Kong.  In those years not only support for this group of people, and their parents, were very limited, they were also subject to unfair discrimination by other people.  Father Tapella initiated volunteer groups in several parishes he served in Hong Kon

Ugo GONELLA [c.1891-1952]

Ugo Gonella was an architect in partnership with Ernest Manning Hazeland. Together they formed the company Hazeland & Gonella. Ugo Gonella appears in Tony Lam's list of accredited Hong Kong architects. St Margaret's Church at the bottom of Broadwood Road was his unique project. Ugo married Grace Thereza Murray, one of the five daughters of Patrick and Lucretia Murray. Patrick Murray gifted him one of his properties, rem. part. I.L. 1551. Grace predeceased Ugo aged only 32.
