There is an image in the Wellcome Collection (29773i) by Floyd, dated to 1873 though not firmly, that shows THREE chimneys. It can be seen that The Mint-become sugar refinery is on the right (the roofline exactly matches a contemporary water colour painting of The Mint when it was a mint), then there is an unidentified chimney, and then, close down on the water front, a spanking new building that one assumes is pretty new distillery. Does anyone have any ideas what the middle chimney might have served?

The foundation stone of the Jamia Mosque in Hong Kong mentions the name of H.M.H Essack Elias who was the sole declared donor for the mosque rebuilding, I however came across a Carl Smith Card that mentions that a Hajee Mahomed Hassum Chiney who died on May 31st 1919 had given $21,000 for the rebuilding  of mosque (doesn't mention which mosque). Is it possible that these are the same people , why do their names vary .

Does anyone know what the street address was of the Deutsche-Asiatische Bank in 1914? As far as I can discover it was somewhere on Queen's Road.

My name is Christine Ka-Po Mok-Lamme (莫家寶). My grandfather 莫廷基 purchased a plot in 1928 in Castle Peak (DD 131). He buried his aunt there. After he passed away, he was buried in the lower part of the plot. 

My family used to go up and pay respect for years. That discontinued about two decades ago because my parents got older and my siblings and I moved overseas. My family has not been able to locate the gravesite.

I'm finishing off my book about HK and my family during the War Years and would like more info about the attack by the Japanese army on Lyemun Barracks. I know there were many casualties suffered by members of the Royal Artillery, but haven't found much about those who escaped the onslaught and others who survived but were shipped out to POW Camps in Japan. Any help would be much appreciated. Robert Jones

When the Happy Valley Racecourse opened in 1846, spectators likely had to stand near the course, or possibly temporary stands had been built. So far, we do not have any photos from that time. In this post, photos of the stands are presented in the order of assigned dates. These, however, might not be accurate and possibly need to be updated later.
