This SCMP report on RAF Vampire jet-fighters being delivered to Hong Kong quotes them staging at numerous places for fuel and rest where transiting British military aircraft would certainly not be welcome today.

Among the many pictures on Gwulo attributed to 367 Association archives there are probably images of the first RAF Vampires to join 28 Squadron at Kai Tak.

Not to be confused with the Vampire flight piloted by Squadron Leader Francis that overshot Hong Kong and landed at in China at Bias Bay in 1949.

Sent up from Singapore. Seems a long way to send such aircraft just for for scrapping

Can anyone recognise this coastline?

Handwritten caption says "near Hong Kong"

As it is an RAF aircraft I would suggest it is a beach in Hong Kong near a village by the number of bystanders assembled

Model aircraft flying display-10,000 spectators-SCMP-18 August 1941

The numbers of spectators mentioned even for Hong Kong, especially prewar, appears to be over-enthusiastic reporting.

Interesting is the amount of China related participation in the event

Model aeroplane flying is still popular and carried at a site in the northern New Territories
