This is the southern, higher of the two summits now marked on maps as 'The Twins'. It used to be named 'Stanley Mound', and is mentioned many times in histories about the fighting at Stanley in 1941.
The name-change is quite recent:
- 1980: "Hong Kong Streets & Places" only shows "Stanley Mound"
- 1990: "Hong Kong Guide. Streets & Places" shows "Ma Kong Shan (The Twins)" between the two summits, but also shows "Stanley Mound" for the southern summit.
- 2011: The current Countryside Series map shows a single label "The Twins", between the two summits.
