There's an exhibition of wartime sketches from BAAG agents at HKU. It's just beyond the turnstiles, but I asked at the front desk and they let me through to see the exhibition. A similar exhibition was held at the Museum of Coastal Defence earlier in the year:
Exhibition: British Army Aid Group Drawings Period: 14 November to 18 December 2011 Venue: The University of Hong Kong Main Library Entrance Foyer
The British Army Aid Group (BAAG) was created in free China in 1942 to assist members of the Allied forces in Japanese captivity during World War II. Its founder was Lieutenant Colonel Lindsay Ride (1898-1977), a physician and physiologist who had commanded the Hong Kong Field Ambulance during the three weeks of fighting in Hong Kong and later became the 5th Vice-Chancellor of the University of Hong Kong. The British Army Aid Group drawings collected by Colonel Ride during the war period were later donated to the Australian War Memorial in Canberra.
With the help of the Museum of Coastal Defence, the University of Hong Kong Libraries is permitted to hold the exhibition of these drawings. The drawings on display include 22 drawings which contain exhaustive and detailed information on the buildings, its surroundings and geographical locations in both Hong Kong and Kowloon. Other exhibits include Japanese military money, M19/SOE Escape devices, Surrender leaflets and War time certificates of BAAG members.
Wattis Fine Art are holding an exhibition at their shop:
Hong Kong and Kowloon 1838 - 1911: A collection of unusual early engravings and lithographs
9th December - 14th January 2012 Except public holidays
Other exhibitions on at the moment
