Edward Henry Shuster was my Uncle, and son of Edward Fritz Shuster and Alice Hing. As he was a very sickly man and suffered from tuberculosis, one of the members of the Ruttonjee family decided to take upon the responsibility of caring for him. So Teddy lived, till the day he died, (1975) in the Ruttonjee Sanatorium. I wonder if anyone remembers him. I know that he used to work in the library of the Sanatorium and that he was a very good painter. And that there were many of his paintings on the walls of the Sanatorium.

He had two children who now live in Canada - a daughter, also Edwina, like my mother, and a son Peter.

I am now trying to write some notes on the Shusters, so that one day my children will be able to relate to them and understand a bit better when we come from.

Edward Henry Shuster was the first son of Edward Friz Shuster (POW). He was one of the victims of TB after WW2. According to my mother, his half-sister, Mr. Dun Ruttonjee had known Emma Legge whom he had in the hghest regards. So, when my grandmother Elvira Shuster and Mum left Hong Kong to come to Portugal ("Teddy" was staying on as he already had a family) he promised my grandmother to look after him until the day he died and he kept to his promise.

He offered a place for Teddy to live in and a job, at the Ruttonjee Sanatorium, where he was very well looked after. Of course Teddy was free to go out whenever he wanted but that was his home till the day he died. Mr Duhn Ruttonjee also saw to his funeral and it seems it was very touching ceremony, because he was so well-loved by everyone.

I know from what my mother and his daughter tell me, that Teddy used to paint and was quite good at doing so. A lot of his art were hung around the Sanatorium's walls.

I never knew Teddy although I do cherish his memory. And I wish someone would be able to tell me something about him or even help me get some pictures of this artwork.

Thanks.
