27 Aug 1943, Leo Landau's wartime diary

Submitted by Brian McDouall on

A lovely sunny day - death certainly picks odd moments to satisfy itself. Mathieu went on a nullah fatigue and by accident touched the wire - he stuck and after a time /asp was able to break away - his last words - "It is too late" and then was unconscious until death. All possible was done - Stimpson who was ill for a long time died this morning.

This is a very bad day indeed. Mathieu's funeral will be sometime tomorrow
