Another day of stories mostly coming in from working parties. Confirmations of the war being over and all sorts of stories, all very exciting! Had fried egg (parcel) and pancake with Simon this eve, at Supper teatime. After we had finished, we went outside in time to see three sentries, rolling drunk, trying to make the grade towards the guard-house. It's just crazy! Most of us are making our preparations and I have repacked my suitcase, putting to one side stuff that I shall be leaving…
Last night, even up to bed time, the stories were still coming in. Mrs Lee (Beeton (sp.?) of Peninsula Hotel Hairdressers) shouted out that the war was over and we would soon be free. A small tug left the bay with a white flag flying, this morning. Much conjecturing! There are few sentries about and those that do wander into the huts to "trade" have no rifles. We hear that the war ended on the 10th, and that our Navy will anchor inhere tomorrow and will fire a salute! Where the story came…
