Photo of James T. Wakefield (active 1940s-1960s)?

Submitted by qhuang98@stude… on

I'm wondering if anyone might know of a photo or image of James Tinker Wakefield, who was an early Chief Resettlement Officer in postwar Hong Kong and wrote two important reports on social welfare and squatter resettlement. I've tried looking through SCMP and Chinese newspapers, but to no avail (perhaps I am using the wrong search keywords).

A brief CV:

  • Born in the 1920s (unclear), in Chelsea, London
  • Was a Royal Engineer in the British army in Hong Kong beginning in 1939, and was interned during the Japanese occupation
  • Returned to Hong Kong in 1947 as a civil servant
  • DO NT South (1948-50); Assistant Social Welfare Officer (1950-1); Chief Resettlement Officer (1951-4); Asst Colonial Sec (in charge of ‘Lands’, 1954-6); Chief Asst Sec for Chinese Affairs (1956-60); Deputy Comm for Labour (1955-6); Acting DCNT and Principal Assistant Colonial Secretary (after 1956)

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

My original information (from an oral history record (Hong Kong Oral History Project, no. 014, HKU Library) appears to be slightly wrong: here is his Chinese Wikipedia page, https://zh.wikipedia.org/zh-tw/%E9%9F%8B%E8%BC%9D

I've been able to track down two very poor images from the Chinese newspapers:
