William O' Connor was bombardier 3437 in the 2nd Battery of the HKVDC. The Battery was mobilised on 7 December 1941, the day before the Japanese attack on Hong Kong. As listed in the hongkongwardiary, he appears to have been re-assigned to the 4th Battery during the hostilities.

William O' Connor was taken prisoner-of-war and interned at Sham Shui Po Camp. He was later shipped to Nagoya POW camp. After liberation, he was repatriated to the United Kingdom.
