I've added a new overlay layer to our maps, showing aerial photos of Hong Kong taken by an American plane on 1 Feb 1945. You can view the layer on any of Gwulo's maps by selecting '1945 Aerial' in the Layer Switcher at the top right corner. Click here to see an example.
The scanned photos were kindly supplied by Professor Kwong Chi Man from the History Department at Hong Kong Baptist University (HKBU). He originally acquired the photos to use in HKBU's project documenting the Japanese Occupation of Hong Kong. You can find more wartime aerial photos at that link, and lots more information about the Japanese occupation.
The original photographs are held by the United States National Archives and Records Administration (NARA).
