Tung Tau Estate is a public housing estate in the south of Wong Tai Sin. It was built in the 1960s, having 21 Mark II (having 7–8 storeys) and two Mark IV blocks (having 16 storeys). Mark II blocks allowed only very rudimentary accommodation (no elevator, no independent toilets and kitchens -only public toilets and bathrooms). Approximately 49,200 people in 7,750 households lived there!

After the immediate need for housing was met, the government decided to demolish all 21 Mark II blocks, they were replaced by 20 new buildings between 1981 and 1991. The two Mark IV blocks were replaced in 2003 and 2007 by new buildings now named Tung Wui Estate.

The only surviving original building is the Po Yan Catholic Primary School (today: Po Yan Oblate Primary School) at the southern end of the estate.
