Claire Rita Furey was better know as Sister Mary Christella. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and was assigned to Hong Kong in 1936.

During the fall of Hong Kong, she was stationed at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong. On 8 February 1942, a group of eighteen Sisters of the school, including Sister Mary Christella were interned at Stanley Camp.  She worked as secretary in the diet kitchen.

In September 1942, Maryknoll missionaries were released from confinement (see here). However, Sisters Mary Christella and Mary Eucharista preferred to remain in camp for a while longer so as to continue the spiritual instruction of camp internees and engage in social service work. Around 1944, she left Hong Kong and worked in the inland missions of China.

In 1946, she returned to Hong Kong to continue her teaching and missionary work. She left Hong Kong in 1956.
