Philomena Quinn was better known as Sister Mary Clement. She served the Maryknoll Sisters and in 1925 was assigned to South China and eventually to Hong Kong.

During the fall of Hong Kong, she was stationed at Maryknoll Convent School in Kowloon Tong. On 8 February 1942, a group of eighteen Sisters of the school, including Sister Mary Clement were interned at Stanley Camp.  In September 1942, Sister Mary Clement and other Maryknoll missionaries were released from confinement (see here). After gaining permission from the Japanese authorities, she left Hong Kong and worked in the inland missions of China.

After the war had ended, Sister Mary Clement returned to Hong Kong to continue her long association with the city.
