Joel Russell Jones appears in the Jurors List from 1930 onwards and gave his occupation as manager of Connell Bros Co., an import and export firm. He had been married to Helena Apolonia Menchinsky Jones (née Bogusz) and had a son. Both his wife and son were not present in Hong Kong prior to the Japanese invasion.
Joel Russell Jones was interned at Stanley Camp with his wife, Alice Jones (second wife ???). He does not appear on the passenger lists for repatriation on the Gripsholm. It is likely that he is "Mr. Jones", the compradore, one of the ten Americans that had given up the opportunity to be repatriated, as noted from the names on the list here (entry on 4 July 2024).
In a request to The Shanghai Evening Post and Mercury newspaper by Mrs. Joel R. Jones residing in Los Angles, California for information on her husband, the publication reported on 26 May 1944 that Mr. Joel Russell Jones was interned and alive in Hong Kong. See here
Joel Russell Jones appears to have remained in Hong Kong after the end of the Pacific war. He died on 8 September 1949 and is interred in the Hong Kong Cemetery without a headstone.
